In this Christmas Eve, I just logged into my yahoo mail after a long time. I found a stack of “Please Moderate” mails from my blog. I opened the items one by one to read through the comments. I’m happy that lots of readers not only scan my blog but take pains to post a comment on it. So I just sat again on my comp and started drafting a copy of this Santa – Do U know him? Post. Here it is for you…..
Thank You Readers !!!!
Santa is also known as: Father Christmas, Father Frost, Joulupukki, Kris Kringle, Père Noël, Sabdiklos, Saint Nicolas, Sancte Claus, Sinter Klaas, Weihnachtsmann
Many of us know about a fat, white-bearded, jolly man in red dress with white cuffs and a red trouser brings gifts and distributes it to the children. We have known him as “Santa” or “Christmas thatha !!” (Thatha in Tamil translates to Grandfather). Do you know who is this man who brings us gifts and why is he getting gifts for us? Read on….
Santa Claus is also called as Saint Nicholas or Kris Kringle or Father Christmas or just Santa, the legendary patron saint of children; an imaginary being who is thought to bring presents to children at Christmas. Hey wait, I forgot to mention one thing. Father Christmas is the British usage of Santa and Kris Kringle is the US usage of Santa. So we have with us the American version of Santa – Kris Kringle, who lives at the north Pole and our British version of Santa – Father Christmas, lives in Lapland (Finland). Saint Nicholas was the first figure of inspiration behind the Christian figure of Santa Claus. He is a Greek Christian Bishop who belonged to the 4th century. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor.
Since the 1950s, Santa has happily sojourned at Napapiiri, near Rovaniemi, at times other than Christmas, to meet children and the young at heart. By 1985 his visits to Napapiiri had become so regular that he established his own Santa Claus Office there. He comes there every day of the year to hear what children want for Christmas and to talk with children who have arrived from around the world. Santa Claus Village is also the location of Santa’s main Post Office, which receives children’s letters from the four corners of the world.
Children naturally wanted to know where Santa Claus actually came from. Where did he live when he wasn’t delivering presents? Those questions gave rise to the legend that Santa Claus lived at the North Pole, where his Christmas-gift workshop was also located. Santa Claus’s home traditionally includes a residence and a workshop where he creates – often with the aid of elves or other supernatural beings – the gifts he delivers to good children at Christmas. Some stories and legends include a village, inhabited by his helpers, surrounding his home and shop.
So this is the small intro about the Santa !! Hope you liked it. And I wish u all A Happy, Prosperous, Merry Christmas and I know Santa will deliver the gifts to u tomorrow to all of U. Lets celebrate !!
MERRY CHRISTMASSSSSS & HAPPY NEW YEAR
