Short Story: The Prototype

Heuristic programming

A branch of artificial intelligence, which uses heuristics — common-sense rules drawn from experience — to solve problems. This is in contrast to algorithmic programming, which is based on mathematically provable procedures. Heuristic programming is characterized by programs that are self-learning; they get better with experience. Heuristic programs do not always reach the very best result but usually produce a good result. Many expert systems use heuristic programming.

A definition from Webopedia

The corridors of National Academy of Robotics (NAR) were slowly getting empty. The night was setting in. Everyone was strolling towards the car parking along with their co-associates. Students were excited as they were returning back to their hostels. It was an exciting day as the national conference on Heuristics just ended in a happy valedictory ceremony.

Students and research scholars from various universities and research centres were a part of this conference. Hundreds of real working models of robots were displayed and the functionalities were show cased. The conference hall was gleaming with flash lights, exemplary technology and scientists.

“Am I the only one working today in the lab?” thought myself. It was so much tiring today. I’m the Junior Heuristic Engineer working in the robot programming wing RPW-954A of the NAR. Everyone was busy with the conference. I had to work today as well. I haven’t taken a break in the last three hours.

Heuristic programming was little tiring for me. I was staring at the monitor breaking my head into the small piece of code that was supposed to be programmed into the brain chip of the nHR305 robot.

This code was pretty complex as I had to deal with Hex values. I was stuck in one of the conditional operation.

Life was pretty hectic, I was getting drained out. I needed proper rest. But I wanted to complete this module by today so that I can start with fabrication of ICs into the boards. I’m still in simulation phase.

“You, still here?  Its almost 12.00 mid night,” asked one the phase engineer who just came in.

“Yes, Malcolm, I’m working on something. It will take some time, you carry on” I replied.

I started working on the code again.

Natasha was very much happy. She was the young Indian technical heuristic developer to have made the world’s first working prototype of the Heuristic Robot. She was all in cloud nine. More than she was happy, she was hungry too.

25 Random things to know about me

1.    I believe in things which I can fathom and if you are trying to explain things to me please do it with facts & give me some time. I’ll have to get the hold of it. If you are trying to convince me into your shoes, even after my refusal to believe, you are just wasting your time. Can’t you see the word ‘lie’ sitting right in the centre of the word ‘BELIEVE’? I did…!

2.    I’m a gadget freak & Tech enthusiast. I love gadgets as much as I love my people around. I’m slowly getting addicted to technology and always long to own the latest one right away, in every sphere of life. Gadgets, Technology & People have always left me in surprise. No wonder they keep changing!

3.   I flamboyantly stand in the last row when it comes to Cooking, Maths, understanding relationship hierarchy & patience.

4.    I’m a passionate blogger, amateur digital designer, convincingly an event organizer, short fiction writer, a software techie by profession. I promise to hold more interesting positions more sincerely in my life.

5.    Laziness is something which I would never admit to be a deficit entity in me. I’m well equipped with it if you want, I can share some with you if you are ready to accept it. I believe in ‘Laziness is bliss and idleness is a curse’

6.    I’ve always wanted to chase my passion but I’m being chased by circumstances. Now I’m trying to balance passion and circumstance. Hope I get enough strength to hold both of them.

7.    When it comes to music, I like to listen what I want to and not what I have to. I say a big NO to Carnatic, Classical, Hindustani and all those which falls under “Sa sa ri ri pa pa…” kind of lyrics. Now please don’t bring in “Donkey-Camphor” analogy here. This is me to be frank. ‘No Offence Meant’ to anyone or to anything. I mean it. Filmy/Album music is okay for me. I prefer ARR to Ilayaraja. I prefer Radio Mirchi to FM Rainbow. I prefer beats to melody. Listening to Music is not a compulsion but it’s a choice. Respect it!

8.    I just cannot stand people who attribute things to Fate, Luck & ‘Inability of Almighty’. Please stay away from me. It is our own actions and decisions that governs us and things around us. If you cannot accept things happened and you blame it on God or Fate, Morons please understand you are the sole proprietor of your life and in some cases very few external factors are practically responsible. “If you put the ATM card in the ATM machine and it gets struck inside, don’t kick the machine or abuse Luck, kick yourself. You people who designed such things with glitches!”

9.    Flirting is something which I cannot control if it’s a mutually amicably and a harmlessly happening phenomena.

10.  I cannot stand loneliness and idleness. Both of them just leave me in a state of emotional mud puddle.

11.  I love to interact with people who would love to be interactive. I love hanging out with friends, spend time together and enjoy every second of my life. Happiness is after all a non quantitative feeling. Feel it.

12.  Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, WordPress & Internet collectively has become an integral part of my life. Few luxuries have become necessities and few necessities have become luxuries.

13.  When it comes to relationships I expect true dedication and sincerity. Any relationship without a mutual trust and openness miserably fails. I assure you things from my side. Please never fall into deception. I don’t want to hold something which I never want to.

14.  I read books only if I get some time for it. I have spent many of my time scanning through the book titles in Higginbothams, Landmark, Odyssey and all those road side shops in T.Nagar & Pondy Bazaar and getting few of them to my shelves. I prefer Indian authors than the foreign ones, with some exceptions to it. I do read when I travel. You can borrow some books from my bag! (But cannot lend you if I have all my book in my iPad as PDF! :P)

15.  I did have crushes on many of the girls right from my schools, to college and in work. I continue to have more of  it, on many of them.

16.  I love dogs and go mad on its puppies. They are loyal, obedient and cute. Give them a hug they will love you more than yourself.

17.  I’m a singer, dancer and a great thinker in Bathroom under shower! I love hot showers than the cold ones.

18.  I’m notoriously famous for my stomach aching, ear bleeding and brain damaging PJs (Tamil: Mokkai). If you can’t stand them, please learn to face them. I’m deadly.

19.  Travelling is an ultimate fun to me when I go with a large group of friends. ‘Bird Watching’ is more fun filled. I hate going to places alone.

20.  I’m an integral part of my family and friends and vice versa.

21.  Black is never inauspicious to me & is my favourite color. I’ve a good collection of T-shirts and Shirt of black shades.

22.  Live your life to the fullest. Don’t submerge your thoughts under others’. Believe in what you do and practice what to believe. Spend some money, after all they are not going to come with you all the time. As Steve jobs said, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.”. I have always strived to live with my philosophy of life.

23.  Innocence is always an admired feeling. I too admire that wherever and whenever.

24.  Bikes are something which I cannot take my eyes and hands off. I always wanted to ride a super awesome racing machine in the lines of Apache, Pulsar and Yamaha.

25.  I’m not so orthodox and I don’t give a damn.

I’m Tagged !

OK…this Tag Bug has struck me too :-). I used to always think of, how this tagging seems to be interesting to people. Then I found out that, only when you are subjected to the process, you will experience the happiness. So I’m subjecting myself to this Tag Thinggy as of now. Fine then, enough of my intro and blah blahs. Lemme directly start blurting out the secrets one by one. I’ve tried hard and squeezed my little brains to filter these secrets :-D.

1.  I seriously don’t have any interest in Sports.

I see that I don’t have any sort of relevance to this field. In all my social networking profiles or in college/school application forms, one column is definitely left blank or it is filled with N/A. So whenever people ask me what’s the score machi? I used to smile and coolly say, I didn’t see the match. So bloggers and strangers out here in World Wide Web don’t ever take any efforts to shoot this Nasty question to me. You won’t get any useful reply 🙂

2. I like Car Racing.

Now do not ask me, “Do I watch F1 Race” Neither do I watch it. Of course it is a sport. But don’t have any passion as such. It is just that in between switching channels, if I happen to register a small sequence of car racing with all those CASTROL, COLDFUSION kinda AD paintings in the car decals, I always pause for a moment and watch the car race. That’s it.  And yea I do play NFS (Need For Speed Car Racing Game) and I go mad on NFS Most Wanted races. I did not get a chance to play NFS Carbon! I always wanted to participate once in the race, though I’m not as good as Michael Schumacher, Naren Karthikeyan or Ultimate Star Ajith Kumar. I did got a chance to do that. I happen to go for a Go-Carting when I was in Mysore. That was indeed a great drive with kewl bends and turns. Wooooooow !

3. I do not know how to Cook :-(.

Oh My Gawwwd, I have told the most dangerous (for me) secrets of the world. Any guy should have been acquainted to cooking things. My mom’s those words, still reverberating deep inside my cranial cavity “Vijay can cook payasam, vattha kolambu, and paruppu koottu. Neeyum  kathukko. Illena Pinnadi kashtapaduvey” . It’s true I guess. Nowadays, wives do not come with cooking patches installed. They need to upgrade to cooking version only after the one time update called Marriage v1.0. Anyways, after a self introspection, I stood by the side of my sister and learnt how to cook Maggi !

4. I am a Gadget Freak.

Any new gadget that comes to the market, I’m the first one to waste few bandwidths of my BSNL Unlimited Internet Connection to Google and get details out of it. Starting from iPhone, Nokia N97, Morph, MotoRokr, Sony VAIO Pocket PC etc, I go mad on things like this. Anyways, I didn’t sleep till 2.00 AM when I got my MOTO Rokr E6 Touch Screen Mobile. As if newly married, I spent full time with it, to get to know the in & out of it . Still I love my Mobile. My Sweet Rocky !! 🙂

5. I am one Lazy fellow…

Ahem ahem…I am serious about this. People know my true face only when they knock my doors on a Saturday morning and enter my bedroom….to wake me up. That’s a Herculean task! I never get up from the bed until I really need to. I love being in bed and sleep for the whole day. Hostel days were Heaven. Because, those were the times, when nobody would be around to knock my doors on a Saturday morning! I can write a lot more on this topic and I have already written a lot. Well don’t have patience to write more than this. OK Next secret please…

6. I fell in Love

Shhh…I fell in love with Trisha from the time, when I heard the song from the movie Saami, “Kalyanam daan kattikittu odi polaamaa…”. I assumed it as “Kalyan-ah daan kattikittu odi polaamaa?” hehe 😀 :-D…so funny is it? I have a great collections of her pics in my system and in my mobile. Well nothing more to say. I do not know to act like her. But my actions are always governed by my mind becoz, I don’t have my heart with me and you all know the reason as well. So…that was my love story. Still am in Love with her. And if you happen to be Trisha reading this, kindly take this as a proposal and I do remember you date of birth May 4th 1983.  I know u may ask, “But what’s the big deal here?” It is just that, I was too born on May. Dont you see this as a first match?..hehe…SAME PINCH ! 😛

7. I like bird watching (No comments!) 😛

8. Cryptography has been my great passion since my school days. Used to fidget with a chunk of texts and number a lot (Another Dan Brown in Line!)

9. I had kissed a girl when I was in 1st standard. And that girl is my sissy who was drinking milk in her small feeding bottle in the cradle. She licked me back in my cheeks..Soooooo cuuute know?? 🙂 🙂

9a. “Show Me The Meaning – Backstreet Boys” is my all time favorite

9b. Shakira is my all time favorite solo female singer

9c. I enjoy writing.

I discovered this skill in me, only in my late college days, though I had started blogging during my mid college days itself. I found a budding author in me who can write Gud Stories and articles which has attracted many of the people I see, meet, and blog. It really gives me a confidence and relaxation (though I feel tiring to sit and type using a dumb keyboard !), that keeps me going and makes life interesting and beckons a convivial atmosphere in WWW

10. I like travelling in Train

Yea, I like this a lot. Donno, why do I become so nostalgic, when I think about trains? When I was a kid, I always wanted to have a corner seat….stuck in the corner of the Window Seat, gazing the scenery which drift past backward. I sometimes think, how do these trees and landscape move in the opposite direction to that of the train’s? And when you look into the railway tracks, that too in a junction, they seem to spread apart and close into one single strand of metal beam. I always wondered how these things happen. Once when we crossed the level crossing in a roadway, I bent down and tried pulling those tracks with my hands. That sounds funny now.

Now, I guess, 10 points are more than enough, as long list may not attract the readers to go through it. Fine then, my job is done. Lemme tag all my fellow bloggers and encumber them to put their secrets in their blog. Happy Reading! & thanks Gracy for tagging me.
